KMAS Annual Jan.1 2006 Snow Fly Author: Bill Cousins
Well, another year has come and gone and here we are again at the Kamloops Model Airplane Society's [KMAS] annual snow fly. But is there something missing? Ah - snow, there is very little snow, I mean really, no snow. Three weeks ago there was about a foot of snow and with the warm temperatures upon us it's literally all gone.
The snow fly started at 10:00 and lasted till about 3:00, with hot chili-on-a-bun and hot chocolate. The chili was made by Christine and was very good indeed. My thanks to Christine - maybe I can get the recipe.
KMAS has a very nice paved runway with a grass strip beside it and was completely bare of snow. There was approximately 25 people there and about 15 were flyers, which made for a good mixture of planes and also a helicoptor. Everybody seemed to have a good time with lots of tall tales about what they're building through the winter, size of their planes and also size of the motors. Also a big plus on a fine day such as today was that there were no crashes.
There is always good comradery when flyers get together on a fun fly, as there is no competition and flyers can relax and just have fun. It was really great weather - no wind and it wasn't snowing. Flyers came from other clubs to join in the friendly atmosphere. All the local clubs enjoy visiting the other clubs and exchanging ideas and building tips, as well as a few tall tales. It reminds me of the fishermen and the fish they catch! KMAS has a great club house with hydro and a wood stove and believe me it was nice and warm in there.
Thanks to KMAS President, Greg Lawarne and fellow members for such a wonderful day, the food and friendship. It was all first rate.
